Women’s Hockey Claims 3-0 Victory Over Utica

Utica, NY – Looking to claim their fourth straight victory, Women's Hockey hit the road to take on the Pioneers of Utica College. Elmira had previously beaten the Pioneers on Saturday night in close game in which Elmira gritted out a 4-3 overtime win.

In the first period Elmira would outshoot Utica 10-to-6 but neither team would find the back of the net for a score, bringing the game to a 0-0 tie going into the first intermission. Saturday night's hero Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers, PWHL) would get things started for Elmira in the second as she scored a short handed goal at the 5:59 mark, putting Elmira ahead 1-0. Amber Tirri '13 (Ringwood, NJ -- Wyoming Seminary, NAPHA) and Katy Walker '12 (Edmonds, WA -- Colorado Select, JWHL) would pick up assists on the goal. At the 13:48 mark in the second period, Madison Johnston '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Toronto Aeros, PWHL) would score a power-play goal to give Elmira a 2-0 edge. Walker and Charron were credited with assists. EC would carry the 2-0 lead into the third period as they held the Pioneers to one shot on goal in the second period.

With a two goal lead Tanis Lamoureux '14 (Canton, MI -- Victory Honda, TOEHL) would make it three as she scored her third goal of the season at the 7:14 mark in the third period. Samantha Curk '13 (Dorchester, ONT -- Niagara University) was credited with the assist. This goal would be the last score of the contest as Elmira would cruise to a 3-0 victory.

In the contest Elmira dominated as they out-shot the Pioneers 31-to-9. The EC defense held Utica to 3 shots in the final two periods of play en route to their fifth ECAC West victory. Elmira goalie Lauren Sullivan '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Markham-Stouffville Stars, PWHL) would make 9 saves in a shutout effort.

Elmira will be back in action on Saturday, December 11th as they travel to take on the number two nationally ranked SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinals. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
