Elmira, NY – The Soaring Eagles Women's Soccer Team dropped a hard fought game to the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College in today's E8 showdown. Nazareth managed to control most of the game with a relentless offensive attack which resulted in five goals.
The Golden Flyers struck early and often in today's contest as they scored the first goal of the game just five minutes into the contest. Another goal would follow before the end of the half and then three more would be registered in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
Elmira would show heart as they would rally to score two goals of their own at the 68:55 and 85:30 marks. Scoring Elmira's first goal of the evening was first year player Caitlyn Criscuolo '14 (Cheshire, CT -- Cheshire). The first year talent scored as she would place shot in the lower left corner on a free kick cross from Mary Corey '12 (Niskayuna, NY -- Niskayuna). Elmira would register their second and final goal of the evening on a Lauren Barnett '14 (Clinton, CT -- The Norgan School) free kick. Barnett had an indirect kick at the top of the 18 and bent the shot in the upper right corner for a score. Sarah Kropf '14 (Catasauqua, PA -- Catasauqua) would register an assist on the goal as she would make a short pass before Barnett's blast.
These two late goals proved to be too little too late as EC would fall by the score of 5-2. Elmira will look to bounce back as they travel to take on the Bombers of Ithaca College on Wednesday, September 29th at 4:00 p.m. in Ithaca, NY.
