Pine Valley, NY – EC Women's Hockey took on the Bears of SUNY Potsdam in hopes of making it a weekend sweep. In Friday's game Elmira ran away with the win as they scored three second period goals en route to a 5-2 victory.
The first period would be dominated by the Soaring Eagles as they would out-shoot Potsdam 21-to-4. At 16:42 Elmira would convert on a power-play chance as
Madison Johnston '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Toronto Aeros, PWHL) would sneak a slap shot past the goalie on the stick side, putting Elmira ahead 1-0.
Tanis Lamoureux '14 (Canton, MI -- Victory Honda, TOEHL) and
Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- NAHA, JWHL) would pick up assists on the goal. EC would hold on to the 1-0 lead as both teams entered the first intermission.
Just like Friday night's game, Elmira catch fire in the second period, this time scoring four goals in the period. Just 1:25 into the period Mitchell would tally a goal as she would beat the goalie on a screen.
Alex Bresler '12 (Golden, CO -- Colorado Select, JWHL) would pick up an assist on the goal. Just over four minutes later
Lauren Campbell '12 (Erie, PA -- Chatham University) would put Elmira ahead by 3 with an unassisted short handed goal. She would steal the puck and have a one-on-one opportunity and would beat the goalie on the stick side.
At the 12:15 mark in the second
Amanda Ritzel '11 (Spencerport, NY -- Toronto Rattlers) would score her second goal in as many days as she would wrist the puck past the goalie on a screen.
Samantha Curk '13 (Dorchester, ONT -- Niagara University) and
Briana Saltstone '14 (North Bay, ONT -- Southwest Wildcats, PWHL) would earn assists on the goal. About two minutes later
Mary-Kate Gellerman '13 (Frederick, MD -- Washington Pride, JWHL) would register a score as she would beat the goalie on the stick side on a wrist shot. Johnston would earn an assist on Elmira's fourth goal of the period. EC would hold the five goal lead going into the second intermission.
In the third period Elmira would hold on to the 5 goal lead for a 5-0 win and their second straight ECAC West victory.
Laura Proietto '13 (Woodbridge, ONT -- Etobicoke Dolphins, PWHL) got the start in net for the Soaring Eagles and earned the win as she made 13 saves. Elmira will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to take on Neumann University on Friday, January 21st at 7:00 p.m.
