Women’s Hockey Advances to Cardinal-Panther Championship Game

Plattsburgh, NY – In the first round of the Cardinal-Panther Classic, Elmira College Women's Hockey won a nail-biter in overtime against the Panthers of Middlebury College. EC trailed for the majority of the contest before registering a late goal, forcing an overtime period in which EC would deliver the game winning goal.

Middlebury would strike first in the contest as they would register the game's first goal just 3:17 into the game. The game would remain 1-0 throughout the first and second periods. With time fading, EC was desperate for a score and got it from their captain, Alex Bresler '12 (Golden, CO -- Colorado Select, JWHL) at the 13:24 mark in the third period. Katy Walker '12 (Edmonds, WA -- Colorado Select, JWHL) and Tanis Lamoureux '14 (Canton, MI -- Victory Honda, TOEHL) earned assists on the goal. Neither team would find the back of the net as the game would remain 1-1 after three periods.

In the overtime period first year standout Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers, PWHL) would register her fourth game winning goal of the season 3:19 into the overtime period. Lauren Campbell '12 (Erie, PA -- Chatham University) and Amber Tirri '13 (Ringwood, NJ -- Wyoming Seminary, NAPHA) would tally assists on the game winner.

EC goalie Lauren Sullivan '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Markham-Stouffville Stars, PWHL) would make 18 saves in a winning effort. With the win Elmira advances to the championship game in which they will face the Lord Jeffs of Amherst College who advanced on a penalty shootout against SUNY Plattsburgh. The championship game is scheduled for Monday, January 3rd at 3:00 p.m. at SUNY Plattsburgh.
