EC Falls Just Short in Cardinal-Panther Classic Championship

Plattsburgh, NY – EC Women's Hockey dropped a 1-0 decision to the Lord Jeffs of Amherst College this afternoon in the championship game of the Cardinal-Panther Classic. The contest was fairly even as Amherst out-shot Elmira 21-20 while EC controlled 33 of 54 face-offs.

The first period would be uneventful as neither team would tally a score. EC did have a power-play opportunity midway through the first period but were unable to capitalize. In the period Elmira would be held to 2 shots on goal while the Lord Jeffs managed 5.

In the second, both goalies would be tested as Amherst fired 12 shots on goal and Elmira launched another 10. Amherst registered the game's first and only goal 16:27 into the contest on a power-play chance.

Elmira would have their opportunities in the third period, out-shooting Amherst 8-to-4 but stifling play in net kept EC off the scoreboard leading to an Amherst victory. EC goalie Lauren Sullivan '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Markham-Stouffville Stars, PWHL) collected 20 saves in just under 59 minutes of action.

EC Women's Hockey will be back on the ice this weekend as they host the Continentals of Hamilton College on Saturday, January 8th at 7:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletics Center in Pine Valley, NY.
