Field Hockey Puts up Plethora of Shots in 5-1 Loss to Hartwick

Oneonta, NY – The Elmira College Field Hockey team improved on its offensive as it registered 13 shots, but was unable to come away with a victory as they fell to host Hartwick College 5-1 Saturday. The Soaring Eagles move to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8, while the Hawks improve to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

 

Hartwick got on the board early, as they scored four times in the first 14 minutes of play. Alicia Flewelling had two goals and an assist to lead the early charge for the Hawks. Hartwick took a 4-0 lead into the break. The Purple and Gold had a number of offensive chances, registering 13 shots on the day. McKenna Light '14 (Marathon, NY -- Marathon) had a team-high five shots, while Gina Maffei '13(Wayne, NJ -- Morristown-Beard) tallied four.

 

In the 51st minute EC struck when Light crossed the ball from the right side and Maffei tipped it in for the score. Lauren Thomas '14 (Marshfield, MA -- Marshfield) and Brooke Ramage '15 (Masonville, NY -- Sidney) combined to make six saves for Elmira, while Megan Campbell and Devyn Staley made 10 stops for the Hawks.

 

EC returns to action Tuesday when they visit Oswego State for a 4:00 p.m. start.
