Women’s Soccer Falls 4-0 to Non-Conference Foe Geneseo

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Soccer team fell 4-0 to visiting Geneseo on Tuesday afternoon in Elmira. The loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 7-9, while the win improves the Blue Knights to 13-4.

EC recognized three members of the Class of 2012 on 'Class of 2012 Recognition Day.' Erin Pruess '12 (Glens Falls, NY – Glens Falls), Karissa Wilson '12 (Londonderry, NH – Londonderry) and Mary Corey '12 (Niskayuna, NY – Niskayuna) were honored prior to the contest.

Just less than 20 minutes in Geneseo's Kelly Bergin fed Anne Beinetti who beat Wilson with a bouncing ball that rolled between her legs into the back of the net. The Blue Knights would carry the 1-0 advantage into intermission.

Early on in the second half Pruess nailed a shot into Blue Knight goalkeeper Julia Sanger who saved the ball just in front of the goal line. Seven minutes into the second half Bergin tallied a goal of her own off a helper from Bethany Kwarta.

Halfway through the second stanza Bergin netted another score, increasing the Geneseo lead to 3-0 off an unassisted marker. Twelve minutes later Alexa Krebs recovered a loose ball off a ricochet and knocked home the Knights fourth goal of the game.

Wilson finished with nine saves in net and Megan Lowe '13 (Leroy, NY -- Leroy) added one stop in relief for Elmira. Sanger finished with four stops for the Knights. EC returns to action when they travel to take on Stevens Saturday at noon.
