Northfield, VT – The Elmira College Women's Hockey Team fell to the defending 2011 National Champions Norwich University Cadets 4-2 Friday evening at Kreitzberg Arena. The Purple and Gold fought very well, but the Cadets were able to get the better hand later in the game.
Norwich struck first scoring in the 5th and 13th minute of the first period with two different players. Both goals were scored on power plays and hurt the Soaring Eagles a lot ending the first period with the score 2-0. Entering into the second period EC looked to gain some ground on the Cadets by establishing a good offensive attack and making good defensive stops. In the 7th minute the Soaring Eagles did just that with
Ella Stewart '14 (Mississauga, ONT – Notre Dame Hounds) scoring an unassisted goal to make the score 2-1. With this goal EC believed that they could overcome the Cadets heading into the third period.
The game would go back and forth for a while, but EC would strike back again. Assistant Captian
Caitlin Metcalf '13 (Calgary, AB -- Edge School of Athletes) scored for the Soaring Eagles being assisted by
Amber Tirri '13 (Ringwood, NJ -- Wyoming Seminary) and
Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers). Both teams would fight even harder now that game was tied, but the Cadets would take advantage of two power play opportunities to put away the game. The third goal by Norwich was scored by Julie Fortier and be assisted by Renee Lortie. The fourth goal was scored Kaycie Anderson of Norwich to give them the win.
The Soaring Eagles will look to bounce back from this tough loss tomorrow against Manhattanville College at 3:00 p.m.
