Cortland, NY -- The nationally eighth-ranked EC Women's Hockey Team scored four goals in the second and third periods in defeating SUNY Cortland, 9-1, in ECAC West action Sunday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles improve to 3-1 and 2-0, while the Red Dragons fall to 2-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference.
The game was scoreless until the 18th and 25th minute mark of the first period when
Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- North American Hockey Academy) scored on a one timer at the left post to put EC up 1-0. The Soaring Eagles took control of the game with the first four goals in the second period all before the 10-minute mark. Cortland scored at the 9 minute mark of the second period breaking up the shutout with Briana Rossi scoring on a power play.
Elmira sealed the win with three goals within five minutes of the third period, two coming from
Ashley Ryan '15 (North Chili, NY -- Rochester Edge) and completing with
Lauren Campbell '12 (Erie, PA -- Chatham University) scoring a goal at the 12 minute mark to seal a 9-1 victory.
Fourteen players recorded at least one point for Elmira led by Mitchell and Ryan with two goals and an assist. Other contributors to the Soaring Eagles offense are Campbell,
Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers),
Ella Stewart '14 (Mississauga, ONT -- Notre Dame Hounds) and
Haley Welch '15 (East Amherst, NY -- Nichols School) each recording at least one goal and one assist apiece.
Tanis Lamoureux '14 (Canton, MI -- Victory Honda) and
Cassidy Delainey '15 (Edmonton, AB -- Edmonton Thunder) chipped in with two assists. Goalie
Lauren Sullivan '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Birchmount Park) turned aside 13 shots, while Katie Double made 46 saves.
The Purple and Gold will return to action Saturday, November 19 home against Utica College in another conference battle.
