Women’s Hockey Scores Four Unanswered in 5-1 Win

Pine Valley, NY – The EC Women's Ice Hockey team erupted for three scores in the third period in a 5-1 rout of visiting Williams College Sunday evening at the Murray Athletics Center. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 9-1-1 overall, while the loss drops the Ephs to 2-5-0 overall.

The Purple and Gold came out strong in the first period when Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- North American Hockey Academy) tallied the lone score of the period at the 5:54 mark on the extra skater advantage. Mitchell skated behind the net near the left faceoff circle and lifted a shot over the left shoulder of Eph goaltender Chloe Billadeau. Ashley Ryan '15 (North Chili, NY -- Rochester Edge) and Brooke Wilgosh '15 (Regina, SK -- Notre Dame Hounds) tallied assists on the score.

EC dominated scoring opportunities in the second frame, outshooting the Ephs 21-5, but the two teams were even on the scoreboard, each tallying a score. Williams scored first at the 13:02 mark on the power play when Ally Ensore sniped a shot from the point, which was redirected into the back of the net off the stick of Andree Heller. With just over two minutes remaining in the period EC regained the lead at 2-1, when Cassidy Delainey '15 (Edmonton, AB -- Edmonton Thunder) tallied the first goal of her young career in the Purple and Gold, scoring off the dish from Wilgosh and Amber Tirri '13 (Ringwood, NJ -- Wyoming Seminary).

Elmira's control of puck possession paid off in the third period when they exploded for three scores, two of which occurred in a 13 second span to take control of the game. Haley Welch '15 (East Amherst, NY -- Nichols School) scored off a pass from Brianna Saltstone '14 (North Bay, ONT -- Southwest Wildcats) at the 4:06 mark. Then, off the ensuing faceoff, Delainey fed Erin Weston '15 (Ajax, ONT -- Etobicoke Dolphins) for a score. Elmira tacked on another insurance goal at the 14:12 mark when Lauren Campbell '12 (Erie, PA -- Chatham University) and Mitchell tallied assists on a Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers) marker.

Lauren Sullivan '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Markham-Stouffville) finished with 22 saves in net and gave up just one goal, while Billadeau stopped 46 shots between the pipes for the Ephs, giving up five scores. EC returns to action January 6th when they travel to Manhattanville for a 6:15 p.m. contest.
