Buffalo, NY – The Soaring Eagles Women's Hockey team traveled to take on the Bengals of Buffalo State College in an ECAC West match-up. EC was coming off a heartbreaking 3-1 loss to #1 nationally ranked RIT while Buffalo State looked to put an end to an 8-game skid.
Just 4:55 into the first period Captain
Alex Bresler '12 (Golden, CO -- Colorado Select) scored the first goal of the contest on a power-play opportunity.
Amanda Ritzel '11 (Spencerport, NY -- Toronto Rattlers) and
Ella Stewart '14 (Mississauga, ONT -- Notre Dame Hounds Midgets) tallied assists on the game's opening goal.
Bresler's goal was her fifth of the season. Neither team would find the back of the net for the rest of the period leading to a 1-0 lead for the Soaring Eagles as they entered the first intermission.
EC would put up three goals in the second period despite only out-shooting Buffalo 8-to-6 in the period. Rookie talent
Briana Saltstone '14 (North Bay, ONT -- Southwest Wildcats) would put up Elmira's first goal of the period at the 12:14 mark. Fellow classmate
Kelsey Evershed '14 (Franktown, ONT -- Winchendon School) would pick up an assist on the goal. Forty-one seconds later
Tanis Lamoureux '14 (Canton, MI -- Victory Honda) would score her ninth goal of the season on a power-play chance.
Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers) was credited with an assist on EC's third goal of the night. At the 15:44 mark first year Soaring Eagle
Lauren Campbell '12 (Erie, PA -- Chatham University) scored Elmira's final goal of the period.
Lamoureux and
Stewart would each be credited assists on the goal giving them each two points on the night. EC would enter the second intermission with a comfortable 4-0 lead.
In the third period
Charron would score her team leading 25th goal at the 13:01 mark. Third year player
Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- NAHA) tallied an assist on Elmira's fifth and final goal of the contest.
Samantha Maguire '13 (Findlay, OH -- Ohio Flames) got the start in net for the Soaring Eagles. This was her first start since January 8th when she posted a 6-3 win over Hamilton College. In net tonight she made 17 saves in a shutout effort improving her season record to 3-0-0.
Elmira will look to make it a weekend sweep of the Bengals as they complete the weekend series tomorrow, February 13th. Face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Buffalo, NY.
