Bradford, PA – The Elmira College Women's Soccer team scored early but was unable to fend off a pesky Panther squad as they dropped their first game of the season 4-1 to Pitt-Bradford Saturday afternoon in Bradford, PA. The Soaring Eagles (1-1) outshot the Panthers (5-0) 14-13 but were unable to put many of their shots on net and capitalize on their chances.
EC scored in the second minute as Mollie Hamilton '15 (Victor, NY – Victor) headed a Kelsey Kiel '13 (Bryn Athyn, PA – Academy of the New Church) corner just inside the post. That marks Hamilton's fifth point of the year just two games into the season.
Despite the quick start for the Purple and Gold, the Panthers responded, scoring three goals in the span of nine minutes to open up a 3-1 halftime lead. In the 17th minute Lindsay Sherman scored her third goal of the season off a feed from Yvonne Rohan. Two minutes later Vicky DeLong nailed a shot from 23 yards out past EC goalkeeper Megan Lowe '13 (Leroy, NY – Leroy).
Pitt-Bradford would add two insurance goals through the duration of the match. Lowe finished with seven saves in net. Cornell Alisa finished with one save between the posts for the Panthers.
The EC Women's Soccer team returns to action Wednesday as they travel to take on SUNY ESF.
