Women’s Soccer Accurate but Unable to Break Through Against St. Lawrence

St. Lawrence, NY – The Elmira College Women's Soccer team placed all five of its shots on goal but was unable to score in a 3-0 loss Saturday afternoon to St. Lawrence University. The Soaring Eagles dropped to 2-3-1 overall, while the Saints improve to 3-2-1 overall.

 

EC got off to a slow start as they were unable to register a shot in the first half. Both defenses held the opposing offense scoreless for the first 42 minutes of the game. St. Lawrence took great momentum into the half after Mackenzie Collins scored two goals within 27 seconds in the 43rd minute to give the Saints a 2-0 halftime lead. Assists were registered to Katherine Polido and Nyssa LaClair.

 

In the 53rd minute St. Lawrence's Stephanie Sayward registered an insurance goal beating Elmira goalkeeper Karissa Wilson '12 (Londonberry, NH -- Londonberry) from the top of the 18. The Purple and Gold had several chances in the second half as Mikayla Bean '14 (Williamson, NY -- Williamson), Caitlyn Criscuolo '14 (Cheshire, CT -- Cheshire), Kelsey Kiel '13 (Bryn Athyn, PA -- Academy of the New Church), Erin Pruess '12 (Glens Falls, NY -- Glens Falls) and Ansara Persad '14 (Fair Lawn, NJ -- Fair Lawn) all fired shots on net.

 

Wilson finished with one save in net while giving up two goals and Camilla Greeby '15 (Perkiomensville, PA – Boyterton Area) made four stops, giving up one goal. Abby van Geldern finished with the shutout in net making five saves.

 

EC returns home Tuesday as they host Alfred University in the conference-opener. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
