Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Field Hockey team hung tough with the Golden Flyers of Nazareth but ultimately dropped a 4-1 game Saturday afternoon in Elmira. The Soaring Eagles move to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Nazareth improves to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8.

Nazareth jumped out to an early 3-0 halftime lead behind two assisted goals from Lindsey Smith. The Purple and Gold answered back as Gina Maffei'13 (Wayne, NJ – Morristown-Beard) fed Juliet Mejia '15 (Springfield, MA – Cathedral) for a goal early in the second half. EC had another golden chance to get the game within one but was unable to convert and complete the comeback.

Shannon Winney finished with one save for the Golden Flyers, while Lauren Thomas '14 (Marshfield, MA -- Marshfield) made 14 stops for Elmira. EC returns to action as they host Houghton College Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
