Women’s Ice Hockey Dominates Cougars in 12-0 Shutout

Pittsburgh, PA – The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team showed its dominance Friday evening beating conference opponent Chatham University 12-0 at the McKnight Hockey Center. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 14-1-1 overall and 9-0-0 in ECAC West play, while the loss drops the Cougars to 3-8-2 overall and 0-8-0 in conference competition.

In the first period EC scored the only goal at the 5:26 mark with Katy Walker '12 (Edmonds, WA -- Colorado Select) scoring the goal and Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- NAHA) getting the assist on the play. Although only one goal would be scored in the period, EC would outshoot the Cougars 20-4.

In the second and third period EC started to roll scoring eleven straight goals without any answer from the Cougars. Starting the surge was Jocelynne Hudgins '14 (Bowmanville, ONT -- Durham West) who scored her first goal of the season 2:18 into the second period. Assisting on the play was Caitlin Metcalf '13 (Calgary, AB -- Edge School for Athletes). Less than two minutes later Lauren Campbell '12 (Erie, PA -- Chatham University) would score an unassisted goal for her third goal of the season. About 30 seconds later Mary-Kate Gellerman '13 (Fredrick, MD -- Washington Pride) would score her first goal of the season being assisted by Metcalf and Mitchell. Then around a minute later Briana Saltstone '14 (North Bay, ONT -- Southwest Wildcats) would score her first goal of the season and EC's fifth of the game. Hudgins and Alex McPhail '12 (Oakville, ONT -- Toronto Aeros) would be credited with the assists. The scoring would not pick up again until the 18:59 mark in the period with Campbell scoring her second goal of the game on a power play being assisted by Haley Welch '15 (East Amherst, NY -- Nichols School) and Alex Bresler '12 (Golden, CO -- Colorado Select). Ending the second period scoring was Metcalf would score an unassisted goal at the 19:15 mark.

In the third period the scoring would continue with the Walker and Mitchell combination at the 3:30 mark on an EC power play. Around the five minute mark of the third period Cassidy Delainey '15 (Edmonton, AB -- Edmonton Thunder) would score her second goal of the season and EC's second goal of the third period with Maddy Charbonneau '14 (Greely, CO -- Colorado Select) recording the assist. A little over two minutes later EC would score its third power play goal with Amber Tirri '13 (Ringwood, NJ -- Wyoming Seminary) scoring the goal, while Campbell and Katie Gaskin '14 (Pickering, ONT -- Wayne State University) were credited with the assists. At the 8:25 mark the combination of Delainey and Charbonneau would score EC's eleventh goal of the game. The scoring would finally come to end at the 15:52 mark of the third period with Charbonneau scoring the goal and Arden Cowley '15 (Edmonton, AB -- Warner Hockey School) tallying the assist.

In the game EC would outshoot the Cougars 60-11 with three of the team's 12 goals coming on power play opportunities. Sam Maguire '13 (Findlay, OH -- Ohio Flames) in the net for the Soaring Eagles made 11 saves. She earned her second win of the season and her first shutout.
