Men’s Hockey Scores Four Unanswered Goals In Win

Northfield, VT – The EC Men's Ice Hockey team was down early, but scored four unanswered goals in the second period to beat SUNY Morrisville, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Norwich Holiday Tournament. The Soaring Eagles improve to 8-5-1 overall, while the Mustangs fall to 2-11-1 overall.

The game started off slow for Elmira allowing the Mustangs to score 10 minutes into the first period. Geoff Matzel was credited for the power play goal being assisted by Jamie Nelson and Curtis Renaud. Although EC would outshoot the Mustangs 39-16 they would not be able to convent any shots into goals.

In the second period the Soaring Eagles stepped up the offense and controlled the rest of the game. Kevin Willer '12 (Toronto, ONT -- North York Rangers) would score EC's first two goals of the game at the 11:23 and 12:20 minute mark. Darcy Vaillancourt '12 (Bonfield, ONT -- Innisfil Lakers) would assist Willer on both goals and Eric David '15 (Dorval, QUE -- Pembroke Lumber Kings) would also assist Willer on the second goal of the game. About two minutes after EC's second goal Brendan Sanders '12 (Mississauga, ONT -- Vaughan Vipers) would score the team's third goal and Vaillancourt would get his third assist of the game. Towards the end of the second period EC would score its fourth and final goal with Christian Morissette '12 (Beaconsfield, QUE -- RPI) being assisted by John Clewlow '12 (Brampton, ONT -- Dixie Bee Hives) and David.

The Soaring Eagles defense would step up in the third period and hold off the Mustangs from coming back into the game. Matt Milne '13 (Newmarket, ONT – St. Catharine's Falcons) made 15 stops in goal for EC, while Colin Breen made 35 stops in goal for Morrisville. The Soaring Eagles will return to action Tuesday, January 10th as they travel to SUNY Fredonia to take on the Blue Devils in nonconference play.
