Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Soccer team was unable to overcome two early goals as it fell 4-1 to visiting Hartwick College Wednesday afternoon on Campus Field. The win improves the Hawks to 5-8-1 overall and 2-3-1 in Empire 8 competition, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 4-9-1 overall and 2-4-0 in conference play.

but the ball then went off the right post and in for the score. Fifteen minutes later Emily Thorndike headed a shot across goal that was kicked in by Carly Pine for the 2-0 Hartwick lead. In the 38th minute the Hawks expanded their lead when Cristina Sicari took a ball down the center of the field toward the box and played a through ball on the left to Mackenzie Shipley who beat
Lowe just inside the right post. The Hawks held a 13-7 shots and 6-4 shots on goal advantage taking a 3-0 lead into intermission.
Out of halftime the Purple and Gold looked to get on the board but the Hawks struck once again when Thayer played a corner into the box where Jessica Bentley redirected it with her head into the corner of the net. In the 65th minute the Soaring Eagles finally found the back of the net when

Lowe made three saves in the first half for EC and
Camilla Greeby '15 replaced her in the second half stopping eight shots. Hope Brown made five saves between the posts for Hartwick.
The EC Women's Soccer team returns to action Saturday when it hosts Houghton College at 1:00 p.m. on Campus Field. The game will be a 'Kick it to Cancer' contest to raise awareness for breast cancer. Those attending the contest are asked to wear pink to support the cause and there will be raffles and items for sale to raise money for the Twin Tiers Komen for the Cure.
