Box Score Pine Valley, NY – The Elmira College Field Hockey took the early lead, but could not hold on falling 2-1 to Ithaca College Saturday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. The win improves the Bombers to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in conference, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in conference.
The beginning of the game was a back and forth of possession in the mid-field as the Soaring Eagles vied for a chance to shoot on goal.
Shannon Nelligan '14 gave EC the first lead of the game when she converted on a penalty shot putting it in the top left corner at the 29 minute mark. The game remained 1-0 at halftime with the Soaring Eagles looking control the second half.
After mid-break the Bombers went to work on the offensive side looking to even up the score. In the 46
th minute Ithaca tied it up when Julia Conroy scored the goal off a pass from Abbey Lind. The game stayed even until the 63
rd minute mark when Lind scored the go ahead goal. EC had its chances with less than five minutes left, but the Bombers defense stayed strong leading to the 2-1 victory.
Kelly Singleton earned the win for Ithaca and recorded seven saves, while
Lauren Thomas '14 suffered the loss and recorded seven saves.
The EC Field Hockey returns to action on Thursday, October 25
th when the team travels to Keystone College for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference showdown.
