Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team scored four goals in the first two periods to down Scanlon Creek 4-2 in an exhibition Saturday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center.
EC got the scoring started less than 90 seconds in when
Brooke Wilgosh '15 tallied an unassisted marker. Seven minutes into the opening period the Purple and Gold struck again, this time with the extra skater advantage.
Madison Johnston '13 played the puck to
Olivia Nystrom '16
in the slot who crossed the puck from left to right to
Tanis Lamoureux '14 who beat Scanlon Creek netminder Paula Marchhart through her five hole. The Soaring Eagles held a 2-0 advantage on the scoreboard and 21-2 edge in shots in the opening period.
At the 7:26 mark of the second period the Soaring Eagles tallied their third score of the contest when
Nystrom fired a shot on net that was initially saved by Marchhart, but
Amber Tirri '13 gobbled up the rebound and put it home to extend the EC lead to three. At the 15:43 mark of the period
Samantha Curk '13
fed an outlet pass to
Cassidy Delainey '15 who found the back of the net. After two periods the Soaring Eagles held a 4-0 lead and 46-3 shots edge.
Scanlon Creek got off to a much better start in the third period as Katherine Gale recorded an unassisted goal at the 5:35 mark. Five minutes later Cynthia Hopkins fed Stephanie Charlie for the power play score. Neither team would light the lamp the remainder of the game as Elmira prevailed 4-2.
The Soaring Eagles outshot Scanlon Creek 56-9 in the contest.

Samantha Maguire '13
and
Lisa Marshall '14
each played a period in net for Elmira.
Sullivan stopped two shots, while
Maguire made one save and
Marshall stopped four Scanlon opportunities. Marchhart had a phenomenal game between the pipes in the loss for Scanlon stopping 52 shots.
The EC Women's Ice Hockey team opens its regular season Saturday, October 27th when it travels to Northfield, Vermont to take part in the East-West Classic. The Soaring Eagles square off with Norwich University Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
