Field Hockey Falls to Stevens in Regular Season Finale

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Field Hockey team was tied with conference leader Stevens Institute of Technology at halftime, but fell late, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. The win improves the Ducks to 12-6 overall and 7-0 in conference competition, as they recorded their third perfect conference regular season in the last five years. The Soaring Eagles finish the season 5-9 overall and 1-5 in Empire 8 play.

EC finishes the year with the most wins in a season since the 2005 squad went 6-10 overall. Stevens held a 14-3 shots and 12-2 shots on goal edge in the opening half but 11 big saves from Lauren Thomas '14 kept the game scoreless at the half.

Less than four minutes into the second have Marguerite Chavez fed Grace Ridge who nailed a shot into the top right corner for a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later Megan Traub fired a shot on net that was initially saved by Thomas. Jill Fiebel gobbled up the rebound beating the goalie to extend the lead to 2-0. In the 55th minute the Ducks got their third score in the same fashion. Traub once again struck a shot on goal that Thomas saved, but Fiebel was in the right spot as she collected the rebound for the goal.

Thomas was phenomenal recording 18 saves in the loss for Elmira, while Kaitlin McClymont stopped two shots in the win for Stevens. Erin Duffy '14 and Caitlin Sickau '16 each tallied defensive saves for Elmira, while Traub and Katie Achilles notched defensive stops for the Ducks.
