Northfield, VT – The EC Women's Hockey team showed its dominance Sunday afternoon beating Manhattanville College, 3-1, on the second day of the East-West Women's Hockey Classic. The Soaring Eagles get their first win of the new season and move to 1-0-1 overall, while the Valiants fall to 0-2-0 overall.
The Soaring Eagle offense came out firing outshooting the Valiants 14-2 in the first period. EC was able to get on the board at the 11:32 minute mark when
Brooke Wilgosh '15 converted a power play goal. Assisting on the goal were classmates
Erin Weston '15 and
Ashley Ryan '15. The score remained 1-0 going into the first intermission.
18 seconds into the second period EC stretched out its lead when
Madison Johnston '13 passed it up to
Tanis Lamoureux '14 for the score. The Valiant offense started to step up later in the second, but no shots were able to find the back of the net.
Manhattanville was finally able to get on the board 3:16 into the third period when Trenah Stauffer put it in the goal with the help of Michelle Meggiolaro and Katie Little. However, the Soaring Eagles continued to play well and eventually were able to seal the game with another score at the 17:34 mark.
Ashton Hogan '15 recorded her first goal as a Soaring Eagle on the play, while
Wilgosh and
Ella Stewart '14 assisted.
Lisa Marshall '14 earned the win for EC and finished with 16 saves, while Mary Evans played in net for Manhattanville and finished with 33 saves.
The Purple and Gold will return to action Saturday, November 3rd and Sunday, November 4th when they host Cortland State University at the Murray Athletic Center. Both games set to start at 3:00 p.m.
