Two Hare Scores Down EC Field Hockey

Box Score

Pine Valley, NY – Two goals by Oswego State's Alyssa Hare upended the Elmira College Field Hockey team 3-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. The win improves the Lakers to 3-8, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 3-6 overall.

Oswego State got the scoring started early in the 29th minute when Rachel Johnston played a ball into a group of people in front of net. Taylor Stein was able to collect the loose ball and shoot it past EC goalie Kourtny Schwerdtman '15 for a 1-0 lead. Elmira held a 3-2 shots, 2-1 shots on goal, and 4-1 penalty corners advantage in the opening half but the Lakers took a 1-0 edge into intermission.

Oswego State outshot Elmira 5-2 in the second half as the Purple and Gold got just one shot on target in the second 35 minutes but Laker goalie Nicole Moccaldi made the save. Hare scored her first goal of the game on an unassisted marker at the 48:06 mark. She then added a second score off a feed from Michelle Ruskey as the clock winded down.

McKenna Light '14 paced Elmira with two shots on goal, while Shannon Nelligan '14 recorded one shot on target. Hare led the Lakers with three shots on frame. Schwerdtman stopped three shots in the loss for the Soaring Eagles, while Moccaldi made three saves in the win for Oswego State.

The EC Field Hockey team returns to action Saturday when it travels to take on Nazareth College in a pivotal conference battle starting at 1:00 p.m.
