Pine Valley, NY – Three players scored two goals apiece as the Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to seven games, routing visiting SUNY Potsdam 8-0, Friday evening at the Murray Athletic Center. The win improves the No. 4 Soaring Eagles to 6-0-1 overall and 5-0-0 in conference competition, while the loss drops the Bears to 1-5 overall and 1-3 ECAC West play.
The Soaring Eagles got on the board twice in the first two minutes. The first came on an unassisted
Ashley Ryan '15 marker. Moments later
Brooke Wilgosh '15 fed classmate
Ella Stewart '14 who took a one-time shot from the left side of the blue line.
Caitlin Metcalf '13 stood out front and redirected the puck into the back of the net beating Dawna Salvarinas stick side.
At the 7:33 mark of the opening period the Purple and Gold extended its lead to three.
Taylor Steadman '16 fed
Samantha Curk '13 who had an initial shot that was saved.
Jocelynne Hudgins '14 continued to jostle for the loose puck in front of the net and found a shot that made its way over Salvarinas shoulder for the score.
The Soaring Eagles continued their first period success by getting on the board 10:17 into the second period.
Steadman took the puck behind the net and fed a quick pass to
Hudgins out in front who beat the goaltender stick side. Less than a minute later
Wilgosh and
Hudgins assisted a
Steadman score to break open the lead at 5-0.
EC didn't stop there as 34 seconds later
Ashton Hogan '15 tallied her team-leading sixth score of the season off a pass from
Wilgosh. Elmira continued to press the foot to the gas pedal as they added a seventh goal at the 16:28 mark of the second frame.

Hogan's rebound shot was stopped and
Ryan followed it up as the EC pursuit paid off in another score. After outshooting the Bears 10-5 in the opening period the Soaring Eagles continued to dominate that category 14-6 in the second period.
At the 7:10 mark of the third period Elmira continued its dominance as
Ryan fed
Hogan near mid-ice as she skated alone into the offensive zone.
Hogan lifted the puck with a shot that hit off the crossbar and dropped in for her second score of the night. The Soaring Eagles outshot the Bears 14-6 in the final period for a total of 38-17 in the contest.
Lauren Sullivan '13 stopped 17 shots in her third shutout of the young season. Salvarinas made 30 saves in the loss for Potsdam.
The two teams return to action tomorrow for a 3:00 p.m. tilt at the Murray Athletic Center.
