Pine Valley, NY – The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team scored three goals in the third period to down visiting SUNY Potsdam 5-1 Saturday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 7-0-1 overall and 6-0-0 in ECAC West play, while the Bears fall to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in conference competition.
Elmira got on the board first at the 7:03 mark of the opening period.
Ella Stewart '14 took an initial shot from the left side that was saved by Potsdam netminder Jen Conophy.
Jocelynne Hudgins '14 then had a rebound shot strike off the right post before
Briana Saltstone '14 finished it off for the score.

Caitlin Metcalf '13 fed a pass to
MaryKate Gellerman '13 at the point who lined a shot that was redirected out in front by
Cassidy Delainey '15, beating the goalie stick side to open up a 2-0 lead. With just 15 seconds remaining in the period Brittany Lucky fed twin sister Amanda Lucky for a breakaway score as she beat EC goaltender
Samantha Maguire '13 to get within one score at the end of the period.
After outshooting Potsdam 13-11 in the first period the Soaring Eagles held a16-4 shots edge in the second frame, but neither team could find the back of the net as Elmira clung to a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
Elmira added an important insurance goal 5:53 into the third period when
Ashton Hogan '15 found the back of the net for her team-leading eighth score of the season.
Delainey and
Stewart earned assists on the marker. Three minutes later
Hudgins fed
Lindsay Burrows '15 who had an initial shot that was saved but
Tanis Lamouruex '14 gobbled up the rebound to extend the lead to 4-1. At the 10:59 mark
Katie Gaskin '14 fed
Hogan who beat the goaltender stick side to increase the Soaring Eagle lead to four.
Maguire made 21 saves in the win for EC, while Conophy stopped 41 shots in the loss for the Bears.
The EC Women's Hockey team returns to action Saturday when it travels to Middlebury, VT to take part in the Cardinal-Panther Classic. Elmira takes on host Middlebury at 4:00 p.m.
