Pine Valley, NY – The Elmira College Men's Ice Hockey team could not overcome a four-goal deficit as it fell to visiting Neumann 5-3 Saturday evening at the Murray Athletic Center. The win improves the Knights to 1-1, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 1-2.
Neumann got on the board first just 38 seconds in when Aaron Keaney took the puck into the Elmira zone. Steve Gervais picked up the puck and beat EC goaltender
Matt Milne '14 through the five hole for the early lead. At the 6:13 mark the Knights found the back of the net for the second time, with this one coming with a skater advantage. Andrew Love tallied the marker with Chris Bournazos and Keaney earning assists on the score.
Just over six minutes later after Neumann received an extended power-play opportunity they opened the game up adding a third score. The Knights won the faceoff and played the puck back to the point where Casey Rogers fed the puck to Scott Farrell on the left side. Farrell nailed a slap shot that found the back of the net. At the 13:04 mark of the period Neumann tallied another score as Rogers fed Farrell for a second time, once again with the extra skater advantage coming from the five-minute power play.
The Knights scored three goals on two power plays in the opening period, while the Soaring Eagles were 0-for-1. Neumann held a 16-11 shots advantage, leading 4-0 after the opening frame.
In the second period EC came out much stronger as they dominated the Knights holding an 11-2 shots edge but neither team found the back of the net over the 20 minutes of play.
The third period was scoreless through the first 17 minutes until EC scored two goals in a span of 32 seconds.

Campbell found the back of the net off passes from
Nick Angelo '16 and
Josh Burnell '15. Thirty-five seconds later the Knights regained a three-goal lead at 5-3 when Chris Bournazos recorded an unassisted marker. The Soaring Eagles pulled the goalie continuing to push finding the back of the net one more time as
Michael Collins '16 fed
Mark Morikawa '13 who found the back of the net with a crowd in front of goal.
Elmira outshot Neumann 14-7 in the final period and 35-25 in the contest. Braely Torris stopped 32 shots in net surrendering three goals for the Knights.
Matt Milne '14 stopped three shots giving up three goals, while
Ryan deMelo '15
made 17 saves conceding two scores.
The EC Men's Ice Hockey team returns to action Friday when it travels to take on SUNY Geneseo at 7:00 p.m.
