Pine Valley, NY – The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team scored six goals in the first two periods as it routed visiting Utica College 7-0 Friday evening at the Murray Athletic Center. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 4-0-1 overall and 3-0 in ECAC West action, while the loss drops the Pioneers to 1-2 overall and in conference competition.

took the puck down the center of the ice and lifted a perfect shot into the right corner beating Utica goaltender

and Mary-Kate Gellerman '13 recorded helpers on the play.
At the 8:06 mark of the first period
Ashley Ryan '15
extended the Soaring Eagle lead when she found the back of the net for the first time this season.
Samantha Curk '13 fed

who took an initial shot that was saved by Hotaling.
Ryan was in the perfect spot out front as she buried home the rebound for the 2-0 lead.
With just over a minute remaining in the opening period

Lamoureux fed a quick pass from right to left in front of net to
Katie Gaskin '14
who slid it into the left side of the net to convert on the power play. The Soaring Eagles held a 10-6 shots advantage taking a commanding 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Purple and Gold continued to dominate in the second period as
Nystrom tallied a score just 1:04 into the stanza off a feed from
Lamoureux. Sixteen seconds later
Lindsay Burrows '15 dished a pass to
Erin Weston '15 who nailed the puck into the back of the net.
At the 13:03 mark of the period
Gellerman played a pass in the defensive zone to
Burrows who started the attack once again. She fed the puck down the left boards as
Hogan broke in alone and beat the goalie underneath the pads to extend the EC lead to six. Utica held a slight 8-7 shots advantage in the second period, but the Purple and Gold continued to control the scoreboard.
Neither team made much noise in the third period but with just less than eight minutes remaining
Phoebe Piku '16 fed a nice pass to
Caitlin Metcalf '13
for the extra skater score.
Lauren Sullivan '13 stopped all 27 shots she faced in the shutout for Elmira. Hotaling started in net for the Pioneers making nine saves, while Marissa McNamara replaced her and stopped 15 shots.
