Women’s Hockey Scores Four in Second Period to Rout Neumann

Aston, PA – The EC Women's Ice Hockey team recorded four goals in the second period to lead past Neumann University, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at Ice Works Arena. The fifth-ranked Soaring Eagles improve to 10-1-1 overall and 8-0-0 in ECAC West action, while the Knights fall to 2-6-1 overall and 2-4-0 in conference play.
 
In the beginning the game was very even with the Soaring Eagles getting on the board first. At the 2:20 mark of the first period Samantha Curk '13 scored her first goal of the season on the EC power play with Caitlin Metcalf '13 and Madison Johnston '13 assisting on the goal. The Knights would even up the game at the 9:37 mark when Shanelle Douchette registered the unassisted goal. The game remained at 1-1 for the rest of the period with both teams looking to come out strong in the second period.
 
In the second period Elmira got into a rhythm and broke open the game scoring four straight goals to lead 5-1. Starting the run, at the 11:21 mark, was Cassidy Delainey '15 who registered the game winner and go ahead goal being assisted by Ella Stewart '14 and Mary-Kate Gellerman '13.  At the 13:52 mark EC extended its lead when Tanis Lamoureaux '14 passed it up to Ashley Ryan '15 who scored the shorthanded goal. At the 18:46 mark Metcalf registered EC's fourth goal of the game with Taylor Steadman '16 and Curk assisting on the play. 13 seconds later Ashton Hogan '15 recorded the final goal of the period with Curk earning her second assist of the game.  
 
In the third period the Soaring Eagles continued to control the Knights and secured the game with another goal. At the 7:46 minute mark Ryan registered her second score of the game with Lamoureaux and Brooke Wilgosh '15 assisting on the play to prevail 6-1. Lisa Marshall '14 earned the victory for EC making 12 saves, while Shannon Donnelly made 39 saves for Neumann in the loss.
 
The EC Women's Hockey team will return to action Saturday, December 8th when they travel to Williamstown, MA to take on Williams College in non-conference action. Game is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
