Pine Valley, NY – The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team set the tone early as they fired past visiting Buffalo State, 4-0, Friday evening in the Murray Athletic Center. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 17-2-1 overall and 12-1-0 in ECAC West play, while the loss drops the Bengals to 6-12-2 overall and 3-9-1 in conference competition.
Elmira came out with intensity from the start, scoring less than one minute in when
Tanis Lamoureux '14 (Canton, MI -- Victory Honda) scored off the feed from
Ashley Ryan '15 (North Chili, NY -- Rochester Edge) and
Madison Johnston '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Toronto Aeros). The Soaring Eagles scored their second goal of the period at the 8:52 mark when
Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- North American Hockey Academy) played a pass to
Amber Tirri '14 (Ringwood, NJ -- Wyoming Seminary) who fired a shot past Bengal netminder Jordan Lee. EC controlled the game, carrying a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Purple and Gold continued to dictate the tempo and control the puck in the second stanza and broke the game open midway through the period when
Ryan fed
Mitchell who lit the lamp, extending Elmira's lead to 3-0 after two. Just over one minute into the third period the Soaring Eagles scored again as
Lamoureux tallied her second marker of the game.
Katy Walker '12 (Edmonds, WA -- Colorado Select) and
Ella Stewart '14 (Mississauga, ONT -- Notre Dame Hounds) recorded assists on the score.
Elmira outshot Buffalo State 43-26 in the contest.
Lauren Sullivan '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Markham-Stouffville Stars) stopped all 26 shots between the pipes for EC in the shutout, while Lee made 39 saves for Buffalo State.
The Soaring Eagles and Bengals return to action tomorrow for a rematch at the Murray Athletic Center at 3:00 p.m.
