Women’s Soccer Looks to Earn Postseason Berth in 2012

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Soccer team enters the 2012 season looking to make its first trip to the Empire 8 tournament since 2005. The program has shown vast improvement under third year Head Coach Ashley Bingaman, improving its win total from four to seven in year two of her tutelage, narrowly missing out on the playoffs.

The Soaring Eagles return four members from the Honorable Mention All-Conference team from a year ago in Caitlyn Criscuolo '14, Kelsey Kiel '13, Mollie Hamilton '15 and Laura Bartus '13. Criscuolo led the Purple and Gold with 14 points on five goals and four assists, while Kiel netted three scores and dished out three helpers a season ago. Hamilton proved to be the catalyst offensively assisting on a team-high seven goals, while finding the back of the net once herself. In her fourth season in the Purple and Gold Bartus will look to solidify a strong back line.

Ellie Hamilton '13 and Melanie English '15, who each tallied two markers apiece in 2011 will control the midfield, looking to set up the attack for EC.

Emily Kelly '14 who recorded three goals from her defensive position will look to continue her effective two-way play. The Jersey connection of classmate midfielder Emily Karpinski '14 and forward Ansara Persad '14 hopes to continue their strong play as they combined for seven points in 2011.

EC Women's Soccer returns two solid goalkeepers in Megan Lowe'13 and Camilla Greeby '15, while welcoming newcomer Stacy Peterson between the posts. Lowe registered a 3.13 goals against average and .667 save percentage in over 300 minutes of play, while Greeby tallied a 0.59 goals against average and .900 save percentage in 150 minutes of action.

Kimi Girmus '16, Katie D'Amico '16, Courtney Burgazli '16 and Haley Vredenburgh '16 will all look to increase the team's depth in their first season in the Purple and Gold.

With a number of strong returners and a strong recruiting class the Elmira College Women's Soccer team will surely be up for the challenge as they look to earn a postseason berth.
