Box Score Castleton, VT – The Elmira College Women's Soccer team held opponent Westfield State scoreless through the first half, but was unable to get its offense going as it fell 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Rutland Herald Invitational hosted by Castleton State. The win improves the Owls to 2-0, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-2.
EC played an extremely tight first half, and despite being outshot 17-1 took a 0-0 tie into halftime. Westfield State had a breakaway chance in the first half but Elmira goalkeeper

made a superb kick save to keep the game scoreless headed into intermission.
The Purple and Gold's lack of offensive opportunities combined with the possession control of the Owls caught up with EC in the second half as Westfield State tallied three scores. Kayley Miller led the Owls netting two goals and Ashley Bovat registered a goal and assist.

Lowe stopped nine shots in net for Elmira, before giving way to
Stacy Peterson '16, who tallied one save. Jess Habif made the start in net for the Owls and didn't face any shots on net.
The EC Women's Soccer team returns to action tomorrow in the consolation game of the Rutland Herald Invitational. They will take on Smith College at noon.
