Pine Valley, NY – Six different EC Women's Ice Hockey players scored Friday evening in a 6-1 victory over Chatham University at the Murray Athletic Center. The third-ranked Soaring Eagles improve to 14-1-1 overall and 9-0-0 in ECAC West action, while the Cougars fall to 1-10-0 overall and 0-7-0 in conference play.
In the first period EC dominated early controlling the puck and getting plenty of shots on the net. At the 11:24 mark EC got on the board when
Erin Weston '15 passed it across to
Madison Johnston '13 who took the shot and
Audrey Juneau '16 tipped it to put it past Chatham goaltender Megan Buchanan. At the 14:57 mark EC extended its lead when
Tanis Lamoureux '14 crossed it to
Olivia Nystrom '16 passing it out to
Brooke Wilgosh '15 who took the wrist shot glove side for the goal.
In the second period EC continued to extend its lead by registering four more scores from four different players. At the 7:00 minute mark
Nystrom wristed it into the back of the net with
Johnston assisting on the goal. Two minutes and 45 seconds later
Jocelynne Hudgins '14 lit the lamp with
Briana Saltstone '14 and
Mary-Kate Gellerman '13 assisting on the goal. At the 11:26 mark
Weston found the back of the net with
Juneau and
Cassidy Delainey '15 assisting. Just under a minute later
Delainey captured a goal of her own with
Johnston and
Juneau assisting on the play ending the second period.
Although EC continued to dominate the game in the third period the Cougars were finally able to come alive. At the 17:34 mark Brittany Yoisten passed it up to Casey Morfeld who gathered the puck and put it in the back of net for the Cougars lone goal.
Lauren Sullivan '13 earned the win for EC making four saves. Buchanan and Kaitlynn Smith split time in net for Chatham. Buchanan started the first 40 minutes making 34 saves in net, while Smith finish the final 20 minutes making 11 saves in net.
Both teams will return to the ice tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in another conference showdown at the Murray Athletic Center.
