Ryan Records First Hat Trick in Shutout over Manhattanville

Pine Valley, NY – Ashley Ryan '15 recorded her first hat trick Friday evening as the EC Women's Hockey team beat Manhattanville College 3-0 at the Murray Athletic Center. The third-ranked Soaring Eagles improve to 12-1-1 overall, while the eighth-ranked Valiants fall to 6-4-1 overall.
 
In the first period of play the game remained scoreless with EC outshooting the Valiants 11-6. The game was finally broken open in the second period at the 15:20 mark when Ryan put it into the back of the net on an EC power play for her first score of the game after the initial save by Valiant goaltender Mary Evans. Assisting on the goal were Tanis Lamoureux '14 and Madison Johnston '13. The score remained 1-0 at the end of the period with EC dominating and holding the Valiants shot less (12-0) in the period.
 
In the final period Ryan was able get on the board two more times and stretch out the EC lead. At the 16:30 mark Olivia Nystom '16 passed it across to Ryan who juked the goalie and scored for the second time. 1:50 later she stole a Valiant pass and skated down the ice to score the final goal shorthanded.  
 
EC was able to outshoot the Valiants 33-11 and earned its seventh shutout of the season. Lauren Sullivan '13 played in net for EC making 11 saves, while Evans played in net for Manhattanville recording 30 saves.
 
The EC Women's Hockey team will return to action tomorrow when they host Hamilton College in non-conference play at 7:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletic Center.
