Oswego, NY --
The Elmira College field hockey team (1-6, 0-3 E8) struck first, but could not hold their lead as they fell to Oswego State (3-4) 2-1 on the road Tuesday afternoon. Lauren Thomas '14 made 13 saves in the game.

The Soaring Eagles would get off to a strong start against the Lakers as they would record the first goal of the game 12:59 into the first half. After some confusion in front of the cage, Sarah Harden '14 would collect the ball and find Alli Gilbert '16 waiting for the pass. Gilbert finished the shot past the goalie to give EC the 1-0 lead.

The 1-0 lead held for much of the first half, but with just over three minutes left on the clock, Oswego State would tie the game. Thomas made the initial save of the Oswego State shot, but Ashley Collins followed up the rebound and finished her shot past the Purple and Gold defense. The game would stay tied 1-1 as the first half came to a close.

Despite a reinvigorated group of Soaring Eagles, it was the Lakers who did not waste any time breaking the tie as Ashley Fiorille put back a rebound just 2:47 into the second half. The Soaring Eagles attempted to tie the game and had a good chance in the closing seconds, however Ashley Palmer '16's shot off of a penalty corner went wide of the goal as time expired.

Elmira will be back in action this Saturday, October 5th when they travel to Oneonta, NY to take on Empire 8 conference foe, Hartwick College. The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
