Field Hockey Completes Comeback In Thrilling Overtime Victory

Pine Valley, NY -- The Elmira College field hockey team (3-3, 1-4 E8) earned its first Empire 8 conference win of the season defeating Washington & Jefferson College (8-5, 1-3 E8) in a thrilling 2-1 overtime contest. McKenna Light '14 scored the overtime goal to give the Soaring Eagles the victory while Lauren Thomas '14 stopped a season high 17 shots in today's action.
 
Catherine Beaudoin '15 scored just three minutes into the game for Washington & Jefferson to take the early lead of 1-0. Thomas made six saves in the first half to keep the Soaring Eagles trailing by just one goal going into halftime.  The Purple and Gold regrouped going into the second half and in the 50th minute Becca Kraynak '16 launched the ball towards the goal and Alli Gilbert '16 was able to tip the ball into the back of the cage to even the score at 1-1.
 
Thomas made 11 saves in the second half to keep the Purple and Gold's score tied at the end of regulation. The Soaring Eagles came out strong in the overtime period as Gilbert and Light were able to get two shots off within 20 seconds.  Two minutes later Light scored by picking up Gilbert's rebound to win the game for the Soaring Eagles.


The Soaring Eagles will host Neumann University this Tuesday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m.
