Elmira Takes Second Game Against Utica on the Road

The Elmira College women's ice hockey team (2-1-1, 2-0-0 ECAC West) outscored Utica College (0-2-0, 0-2-0) 3-1 in the second game of the weekend series. Erin Weston '15 scored two goals in today's contest for the EC women.

Elmira put the first goal of the day on the board just 1:09 in today's game to take the lead after Weston netted her first goal off a pass from Ashley Ryan '15. With less than five minutes left in the first period  the Soaring Eagles capitalized on man-advantage opportunity when Cassidy Delainey '15 received a pass from Ashton Hogan '15 and buried the puck past the Utica net-minder to increase the Elmira lead to 2-0. 

The Purple and Gold's 2-0 lead would hold up going into the first intermission. Elmira held a slight advantage in shots during the first period with 15-14. During the second period the Soaring Eagles increased the margin to 3-0 after Weston scored her second goal of the game unassisted just 3:08 into the period.  During the second period no team held the shot advantage after both teams would only get nine shots a piece.

During the third period Utica would put a goal on the board during a power-play opportunity cutting Elmira's lead to 3-1. The EC women would prove to be sound defensively the rest of the game as they only allowed three shots on net during the entire third period.

Lisa Marshall '14 picked up the second win against Utica over the weekend as she tallied 25 saves in today's victory.

Elmira will compete next this Friday and Saturday where they will travel to SUNY Potsdam to play back-to-back ECAC West Conference games. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
