Potsdam, NY -- The Elmira College women's hockey team (3-1-1, 3-0-0 ECAC West) outscored SUNY Potsdam (2-2-1, 1-2-1 ECAC West) 8-3 today. Seven different players scored for the Soaring Eagles tonight.
Ashley Ryan '15 led the EC women with two goals in the winning effort.
Elmira scored their first goal of the night just 5:15 into the game after
Brooke Wilgosh '15 capitalized on the first power play of the night. The Soaring Eagles found the back of the net again at the 12:47 mark when
Erin Weston '15 got a pass from
Katie Gaskin '14 and buried the puck behind the Bear's netminder. Just 30 seconds later Ryan increased the lead to 3-0 off a pass from
Tanis Lamoureux '14 and blasted the puck past the goaltender.
Olivia Nyström '16 and Wilgosh set up the fourth goal of the game after
Johanna Eidensten '17 placed one past the Potsdam's goalie. The Soaring Eagles finished the first period outshooting the Bears 14-4
Lamoureux scored off another power play opportunity after Wilgosh set up the shot to increase the Purple and Gold's lead to 5-0. Ryan put her second goal of the night on the board with an assist credited to West at the 9:06 mark of the second period. After Elmira posted six unanswered goals, Potsdam would get on the scoreboard when Jessica Silveria '14 scored the Bear's first goal of the night. At the end of the second period the EC women outshot Potsdam 17-6.
The Bears put two more goals on the board in the third period before
Jessica Prance '17 scored Elmira's eighth goal of the night after
Ashton Hogan '15 put the puck on Prance's stick. Elmira outshot Potsdam 16-9 in the third period and finished the night with a 47-19 advantage.
Kierra Pietramala '17 earned her first win of her career after making her collegiate debut tonight. In tonight's action she made 16 saves in the net for the Purple and Gold.
The EC women will compete against SUNY Potsdam again tomorrow November 16th, the puck is set to drop at 3:00 p.m.
