Houghton, NY --
The Elmira College field hockey team (4-12) fell to Houghton College (6-12) on the road today, 2-1. Alli Gilbert '16 scored the Soaring Eagles lone goal of the afternoon while Lauren Thomas '14 made five saves.

Gilbert's 13th goal of the season places her tied for second for most goals in a season in Elmira College's history and fourth in a single-season points with 29, one point shy of moving into a four-way tie for first place. She also moved up to fifth place in EC history in career goals with 15 in just her first two years of action.

Houghton found the back of the cage first when Maesa Phongsamouth '14 scored in the 29th minute of the game. The Highlanders goal would stand throughout the half as they took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Coming out in the second half, the Highlanders would increase their lead to 2-0 after Colleen Sullivan '15 punched one past Thomas for the score.

Elmira responded in the 52nd minute by cutting Houghton's lead in half after Gilbert got a pass from Becca Kraynak '16 and scored her 13th goal of the season. The comeback would fall short despite outshooting Houghton 14-12, as the Highlanders clinched a 2-1 win.

Today's contest marked the final game of the 2013 season for the Purple and Gold.
