Pine Valley, NY --
The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team (5-1-1) put together an impressive performance Saturday afternoon as the Soaring Eagles picked up their fifth win in a row, defeating visiting Williams College (1-2-0) 5-1.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the first period, but the Soaring Eagles would capitalize on the first power play of the day as Ashton Hogan '15 would net her fourth goal of the year with 1:45 to play in the opening frame. Hogan would follow-up a Brooke Wilgosh '15 shot and finish a backhander through the five-hole of Ephs goalie, Chloe Billadeau. Ashley Ryan '15 also picked up an assist on the play. EC would take the 1-0 lead into the locker room.

After only one penalty in the first 20 minutes of play, there were a total of six infractions called by the officials in the second period. The Soaring Eagles were the recipients of the first penalty of the second period, but were able to keep Williams off the scoreboard behind a strong penalty kill unit. Immediately following the return of Phoebe Piku '16 to the ice, the Purple and Gold went on the attack. Cassidy Delainey '15 received passes from Tanis Lamoureux '14 and Katie Gaskin '14 and finished the shot past Billadeau for the score. Just over a minute later Lamoureux would score a power play goal of her own as she would fire a shot from just off to the right side of the goal and beat Billadeau above her right shoulder. The man-up goal was set up yet again by Wilgosh and Ryan.

Following Lamoureux's goal, the Purple and Gold faced a stretch of nearly eight minutes where they played a man down as EC picked up four successive penalties. The disadvantage did not effect EC's charge, however, as Ryan, who had assisted on two of the Soaring Eagles' first three goals, decided it was her turn to get in on the act. After Lamoureux stole the puck from a Williams player, she found Ryan streaking towards the center of the ice. Ryan ripped the shot over the flailing stick of the Williams goalie for the shorthanded goal. That would be the final score of the period as EC took a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The third period was a bit more conservative compared to the second period as there were just two goals scored. The first goal of the final stanza came from an EC newcomer as Johanna Eidensten '17 teamed up with her countryman, Olivia Nyström '16, to execute a two-on-one to perfection. Nyström carried the puck down the left side of the ice, making both the last Williams defender and Billadeau commit before passing the puck to the middle where Eidensten finished into the open net.

The 5-0 lead did not last long as Williams got on the board just 32 seconds later. The Soaring Eagles turned the puck over near the blue line which sprung Cristina Bravi free for a breakaway opportunity. Bravi's shot would beat Elmira goalie, Lisa Marshall '14, five-hole but that would be all that Marshall would allow as the Purple and Gold went on to win 5-1.

Marshall made 31 saves in net for the Soaring Eagles while Ryan and Lamoureux each recorded one goal and two assists for three points.

The Purple and Gold will be back in action next weekend as they participate in the Cardinal-Panther Classic in Middlebury, VT. The first game of the classic features a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championship game as EC will take on the Panthers of Middlebury College.
