Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's ice hockey team is only a day away from their home opener as the defending NCAA Champions. Elmira hosts Utica College on Saturday, November 9th in a 3:00 p.m. game before traveling to Utica, NY to take on the same Pioneers in a 3:00 p.m. game the following day.

Home Opener
Today's matchup is the home opener for the defending national champions. Historically, the Soaring Eagles have been superb in home opening games as they have an 11-1 record in the 12-year history of the program and have outscored opponents by an astonishing 71-8 margin. The last time the Purple and Gold opened at the Murray Athletic Center against Utica was in the 2011-12 season where EC came away with a 2-1 victory.

White Out
Saturday is a big day for ice hockey at Elmira College with both men's and women's ice hockey teams hosting ECAC West opponents. Fans are encouraged to wear white to "White Out" the Murray Athletic Center. The first 500 fans with an EC student ID will receive an EC Super Fan t-shirt, courtesy of the Elmira College Finance Board. All shirts will be handed out in the main lobby of the MAC.

All-Tournament Team
Despite not coming away with a victory, the Soaring Eagles were represented on the East-West Classic All-Tournament Team as Cassidy Delainey '15 earned one of the six spots. Delainey scored both goals against #9 Manhattanville and assisted on the first goal against #5 Norwich, giving her three points on the young year.

ECAC West Recognition
Cassidy Delainey '15 had a strong start to the 2013-14 campaign as she recorded three points in two games at the East-West Classic and being named to the East-West Classic All-Tournament team. For her efforts over the first weekend of the year, the ECAC West honored Delainey with a spot on the ECAC West Weekly Honor Roll.

ECAC West Competition
After a challenging weekend at the East-West Classic in Northfield, VT, the Elmira College women's ice hockey team will jump into conference play with a pair of games against Utica College. The Soaring Eagles will host the Pioneers on Saturday, November 9th before closing their weekend with a game at Utica the following afternoon.

EC finished second in the ECAC West Conference in 2012-13 with a 14-2-0 record, with their only losses coming at the hands of Plattsburgh State. The Soaring Eagles also finished as the runner-up in the ECAC West Championship game, falling to Plattsburgh 4-2.

When Delainey Scores
The Purple and Gold have had much success when the forward finds the back of the net, posting a 9-1-1 record in the two-plus years the Edmonton, Alberta native has been with the program. Their only blemish came against Middlebury College last season.
