Pine Valley, NY -- The Elmira College women's ice hockey team (1-1-1, 1-0-0 ECAC West) used three third period goals to put away the Pioneers of Utica College (0-1-0, 0-1-0 ECAC West), 4-1.  Elmira's Tanis Lamoureux '14 and Ashley Ryan '15 registered three points apiece in today's win, scoring one goal and two assists apiece.

Prior to today's game, Elmira College recognized the accomplishments of the 2012-13 NCAA National Championship women's ice hockey team.  Lamoureux presented the NCAA trophy to Elmira College president Dr. Ronald Champagne and Vice President of Athletics, Pat Thompson '75.

Utica put the first goal on the scoreboard just 2:29 into today's contest to take an early 1-0 lead.  Morgan Reed scored the Pioneer goal as she followed up on her own shot, burying her second attempt at point blank range.

With the first period coming to a close, Elmira evened things at one apiece as Brooke Wilgosh '15 smashed home a slap shot from the blue line on a power play opportunity.  Ashton Hogan '15 and Ashley Ryan '15 were credited with assists on the goal as their pin-point passing setup the Wilgosh goal.

Wilgosh's goal would hold up through the first period as the teams entered the first intermission all square at 1-1.  Elmira outshot Utica 14-to-5 in the period and followed that up by outshooting the Pioneers 13-to-12 in the second.  However, neither team would register a goal in the second as the score remained 1-1 entering the final period of regulation.

In the third, Elmira scored a pair of goals less than 30 seconds apart to take a 3-1 lead.  Captain Tanis Lamoureux '14 scored the first of EC's two goals, punching home the eventual game winner at the 2:23 mark of the third.  Lamoureux's goal was setup by Erin Weston '15, who after receiving a pass from Olivia Nyström '16, carried the puck to the right faceoff circle where she dumped it off to Lamoureux who wristed a shot through the Utica goalie's legs for the goal.

28 seconds later Weston would pick up a goal of her own as she wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle, beating the Utica netminder on the glove side.  Lamoureux and Ryan picked up assists on Elmira's third goal of the game.

Then, 13:42 into the third, Ryan put the Pioneers away for good by scoring Elmira's fourth goal of the afternoon.  Ryan's goal was setup by some precision passing as Lamoureux snapped a pass from the left side of the ice where Cassidy Delainey '15 redirected the pass to Ryan, who buried a wrist shot for the score.

Lisa Marshall '14 picked up her first win of the season as she came up with 31 saves in today's contest, tying a career high which dates back to the 2011-12 season.

Elmira will look for win number two over the Pioneers as they travel to Utica, NY to take on the same Utica College team.  The puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
