Box Score Stamford, CT – Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16 scored the lone goal for the EC Men's Ice Hockey team in the final period as it fell, 5-1, to No. 15 Manhattanville College Tuesday afternoon at Terry Conners Rink. With the win the Valiants improve to 12-8-1 and 5-5-2 in ECAC action, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 10-13-0 and 5-8-0 in conference play.
In the beginning of play the tempo went back and forth with the Valiants getting the edge in shots 14-9, but no one could find the back of the net at the end of the first.
The second period of play was dominated by the Valiants who were able to break open the game with three goals and outshoot the Soaring Eagles 22-5. The first score came at the 11:50 mark when JP Witkop put it past EC goaltender
Darren MacDonald '13 for the 1-0 lead. At the 17:18 mark Manhattanville extended its lead to 2-0 when Mark Rivera found Jason Bowles for the score. The third score came 65 seconds later when Brendan Turner passed it up to Paul Allen Bamberg who lit the lamp for the 3-0 lead.
The Soaring Eagles came out in the final period ready to fight, but the Valiants put the pressure on and eventually stretched out the lead once again. At the 10:59 mark of the period Luc Van Natter put it into the back of the net to make it 4-0 with Matt Coleman and Adam Young assisting on the play. A little over three minutes later Van Natter registered a power play goal to give Manhattanville a 5-0 lead with Scott Hudson and Anton Racklin helping out on the play. EC was finally able to get on the board at the 16:45 mark when
ten Vaanholt put it past the Valiant goaltender Alex Scola with
Jordan Robertson '16 assisting on the goal.
Manhattanville held the edge in shots on goal (46-26) and face-off wins (44-27) which allowed them to control the game. Scola earned the conference victory for the Valiants recording 25 saves, while
MacDonald suffered the loss tying his season-high 41 saves.
The EC Men's Hockey team will return to action Saturday, February 16 on its final regular season game in Geneva, NY against No. 6 Hobart College. The game is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
