Forrest and Pochkar Contribute Career Performances in Loss at Nazareth

Pittsford, NY – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team trailed by just four at halftime, but host Nazareth controlled play in the second half as it defeated EC, 68-56, Friday evening in Kidera Gymnasium. The loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 8-16 overall and 3-10 in Empire 8 play, while the win improves the Golden Flyers to 10-14 and 7-6.

Jessica Zoltowski '14 finished with 19 points and eight rebounds going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.Liz Forrest  '14 added 15 points and five rebounds shooting 4-for-6 from long distance. Her 15 points were the second most in a game in her career, while the four hits from downtown set a career best on made three-pointers. Karli Pochkar '16 recorded a career-high nine points shooting 60 percent from the field.

Elmira led by as many as seven at 18-11 nine minutes into the contest. Nazareth quickly responded with a 7-0 run to tie it at 18 all and extended their lead to eight at 32-24. The Soaring Eagles closed the final 1:38 of the half on a 4-0 run to trail 32-28 at intermission. The Golden Flyers shot 52 percent from the field, while EC converted just 28 percent of its shots.

The Purple and Gold kept the lead within two early on in the second half thanks in large part to a pair of Forrest treys. Midway through the stanza the Golden Flyers opened up an eight point lead after an Erica Shaw basket from downtown.

Over the next eight minutes of clock time Nazareth doubled its lead from eight to its largest cushion of the game at 16, with 1:47 remaining in the game. EC outscored Naz 7-3 down the stretch for the 68-56 final.

Lindsey Kelly led all players with 23 points and 13 rebounds on 9-for-12 shooting. Hannah Runyon added 13 points, while Shaw contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. The Golden Flyers shot 53 percent from the field in the game, while EC converted on just 30 percent of its attempts. The Soaring Eagles controlled points off turnovers 14-8, while Naz had a 22-6 points in the paint edge.
