BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's basketball team travelled to SUNY Brockport the first round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. The Soaring Eagles secured a late comeback for the upset win, 77-71, and advance to the second round of the E8 tournament.

The Soaring Eagles were to first to hit the board with a deep three-pointer from
Emma Ryan.
Haley Mosch followed with a three of her own to add to EC's lead. Back-to-back three-pointers from
Lauren Miller grew the deficit to eight. Brockport quickly even the scoring before another three from Miller closed the first period tied at 21 apiece. Layups in the paint from
Aynsley Belcher and Mosch set EC ahead by six, followed by two consecutive fastbreaks from
Amarionah Dixon. The Soaring Eagles saw a shot from downtown from
Mia Welty to send EC into the half with a 41-31 advantage.
Brockport opened the second half strong, quickly cutting Elmira's lead to two. An and-one foul from Elmira sent Brockport to the line to steal the lead on a freethrow. Shots in the paint from
Mallory Welty and Miller cut the Golden Eagles advantage to seven going into the final quarter of play (63-56). Back-to-back three pointers from Miller followed by a layup from
Sophia Ward quickly tied the game at 64. Both teams traded points until a foul from the Golden Eagles sent Mosch to the line. Mosch made her freethrow and Miller's sixth three of the afternoon ultimately secured the 77-71 victory and advance the Soaring Eagles to the semifinals.
LEADERS
Miller tallied 21 points, going 6-7 from behind the three-point arc. Ryan followed with 15 points of her own and one steal. Dixon recorded 13 points with eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.

The Soaring Eagles will travel to Houghton on Wednesday, February 25 for the Empire 8 semifinal matchup. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
