ECAC Women's West Championship Weekend Preview


Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Hockey team travels to Plattsburgh, NY to take part in the 2013 ECAC Women's West Championship this weekend. The second seeded Soaring Eagles will take on fourth seeded Utica on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the Championship game on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Then-No. 3 Elmira fell to Then-No. 6 Middlebury, 3-1, on February 16th at the Murray Athletic Center. The Soaring Eagles are currently ranked fourth in the USCHO.com poll.
 
Where We Sit
EC finished the regular season 20-4-1 overall and 14-2-0 in ECAC West competition. The Purple and Gold clinched the two seed and had a first round bye into this weekend's semifinals. Fourth seeded Utica (16-8-2, 9-5-2 ECAC West) defeated fifth seeded Potsdam, 5-1, to advance to the semifinals.
 
The Other Semifinal
No. 1 Plattsburgh (23-0-2, 15-0-1 ECAC West) has clinched the one seed in the playoffs and the right to host this weekend. No. 6 Neumann (10-15-1, 6-10-0 ECAC West) upset third seeded Oswego, 3-0, to advance to the weekend.

All Conference Womens Hockey
Six Soaring Eagles Earn Yearly Awards
Six different members of the Women's Hockey team were named to 2012-13 ECAC Women's West All-Conference teams. Brooke Wilgosh '15 was named to the First Team, while Ashley Ryan '15, Ashton Hogan '15 and Madison Johnston '13 earned spots on the Second Team. Mary-Kate Gellerman '13 earned Honorable Mention accolades and Olivia Nystrom '16 was honored as a part of the All-Rookie Team.
 
Looking Ahead
The winner of No. 2 Elmira vs. No. 4 Utica will advance to Sunday's ECAC West Championship game against the winner of No. 1 Plattsburgh/No. 6 Neumann
