Oswego, NY – The EC Women's Ice Hockey team cruised to another ECAC West conference victory, 2-0, over Oswego State University Friday evening in Oswego. The third-ranked Soaring Eagles improve to 19-3-1 overall and 13-2-0 in ECAC West action, while the Lakers fall to 10-10-1 and 8-5-0 in conference play.
In the opening period Oswego State would dominate on the offensive side outshooting EC 9-5. However, the Soaring Eagles were able to get on the board early with a score at the 5:43 mark when
Samantha Curk '13 passed it up to
Ashton Hogan '15 who passed it across to
Caitlin Metcalf '13 for the score on EC's first power play opportunity.
In the second period things turned around with EC dominating in shots 14-3 and stretching out its lead to 2-0 at the 17:05 mark.
Ella Stewart '14 passed it up to
Erin Weston '15 who put it into the back of the net.
The final period of action would continue to be a battle, but neither team would find the back of goal with Oswego barely outshooting EC 8-7.
Lauren Sullivan '13 earned her seventh shutout of the season while recording 20 saves. Bridget Smith played in net for the Lakers making 24 stops in the loss.
The Purple and Gold will return to action tomorrow when they face off with the Lakers again starting at 3:00 p.m.
