Buffalo, NY – The No. 11 Elmira College Men's Volleyball team was swept in a pair of matches to two Top 10 teams Saturday on the first day of the United Volleyball Crossover hosted by Medaille College. The Soaring Eagles fell 3-0 (30-32, 17-25, 23-25) to No. 9 SUNY New Paltz in its opening match before dropping a 3-0 tilt (24-26, 15-25, 20-25) to No. 6 Stevens Institute of Technology. With the losses the Soaring Eagles drop to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in UVC competition.

In EC's first match against New Paltz both teams struggled hitting the ball in the opening set as it came down to the wire with the Hawks pulling out a 32-30 victory. EC finished with 17 kills and 13 errors in the frame, while New Paltz tallied 10 kills and four errors.

The two top 15 teams played at a much higher level in the second stanza combining for 25 kills and just five errors. The Purple and Gold hit .296, while the Hawks were on fire hitting a blistering .667. The final set was another tight one, but New Paltz pulled out the 25-23 win to complete the sweep.

Elmira struggled early against the Ducks finishing the first set with 13 kills and nine errors as Stevens squeaked out a 26-24 win. The final two frames proved to be controlled by the Ducks as Elmira finished with more errors (18) than kills (15) in those two sets.
