Men's Volleyball Falls to NYU

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's volleyball team dropped a UVC contest to New York University on Sunday afternoon inside Speidel Gymnasium, falling in straight sets (20-25, 22-25, 19-25). The Soaring Eagles battled throughout the match, but the visiting Violets used timely runs and efficient hitting to secure the sweep.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
NYU opened the match with early momentum, jumping out to a quick lead in the first set. Elmira responded with a mid-set push, highlighted by kills from Luke Jata and Gabriel Staron, to stay within striking distance. Despite closing the gap late, the Violets held off the rally to take the opener, 25-20.

The second set featured Elmira's strongest offensive stretch of the match. The Soaring Eagles traded points with NYU throughout, with contributions Luke Jata, Staron, and Ethan Davenport helping EC keep things tight. After evening the score late in the set, Elmira pushed ahead briefly, but NYU answered with a late run to claim a 25-22 victory and take a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, Elmira again showed resilience, staying close in the early stages before NYU gradually pulled away. The Violets capitalized on key attacking opportunities down the stretch to seal the set, 25-19, and complete the sweep.

Luke Jata led the Soaring Eagles with 14 kills and 2 blocks, while Gabriel Staron contributed 7 kills.
