Plattsburgh, NY – The EC Women's Hockey team scored five straight goals in the final period of action to take down the Utica College Pioneers in the ECAC West Conference Tournament Semifinals hosted by Plattsburgh State University. The Soaring Eagles improve to 21-4-1 and move onto the ECAC West Conference Championship tomorrow, while the Pioneers fall to 16-9-2.
The first two periods of action remained scoreless with EC controlling the game and outshooting Utica 22-11. In the third period the Soaring Eagles continued to dominate on offense and finally got some of their shots to go through. The game winning goal came 1:46 into the period when
Ashley Ryan '15 fed
Tanis Lamoureux '14 for the score. The second score came near the 11 minute mark when
Caitlin Metcalf '13 put it into the back of the net with
Samantha Curk '13 and
Brooke Wilgosh '15 assisting on the play. About a minute later
Madison Johnston '13 found
Erin Weston '15 for the 3-0 lead. In the final four minutes of play EC was able to secure the game with scores by
Ashton Hogan '15 and
Ryan.
Lauren Sullivan '13 earned another win for EC making 19 saves on the night, while Jennifer Hamel suffered the loss for Utica making 30 saves.
The EC Women's Hockey team has advanced to the ECAC West Conference Tournament Championship where they will face-off against No. 1 seeded Plattsburgh State University. Game is set to start at 3:00 p.m. in Plattsburgh, NY.
