Field Hockey Falls to Nazareth in the Closing Seconds

The Elmira College field hockey team (0-4, 0-2 E8) fell to Nazareth College (3-3, 2-0 E8) 3-2 in the closing seconds of EC's home opener.  Alli Gilbert '16 and McKenna Light '14 both scored for the Soaring Eagles while Lauren Thomas '14 made nine saves in today's action.
 
The Golden Flyers scored first when Jordan Ritchie '14 put the ball in the back of the net off a rebound 20 minutes into the game.  The Soaring Eagles fought hard in the first half of play allowing only one goal and being outshot 10-8.  EC came out with energy after halftime as Gilbert cleaned up a rebound to tie the game after one minute and 10 seconds into the second half.  
 
Nazareth took the lead back in the 54th minute as Maggie Muzio '16 was able to slip the ball past Thomas.  Elmira tied the game up again in the 60th minute after McKenna took advantage of a penalty corner and blasted a shot from 20 yards away. With only 22 seconds left in the game Sarah Wazenkewitz '14 scored the game-winner.
 
The Soaring Eagles next game will be at the Murray Athletic Center vs. Keystone College on September 25th at 4:00 pm.
