Elmira, NY --
The Elmira College women's soccer team (3-3) used three second half goals to earn their first Empire 8 Conference win of the season, shutting out the visiting Utica College Pioneers 3-0. Amanda Banner '17 recorded six saves en route to her first career shutout.

The first half was a defensive battle as neither team could put the ball in the back of the net. Elmira outshot Utica 11-6, but both keepers kept the game scoreless through the first 45 minutes.

The Soaring Eagles did not wait long to break the 0-0 tie as Kelsie DeKarski '14 scored her second goal of the year over two minutes into the second half. DeKarski received a pass from Mackenzie Donohue '15 at the top of the 18-yard box, turned and fired a left-footed shot at the net which beat the goalie.

About seven minutes later Elmira would strike again as Donohue would get a goal of her own. After dispossessing a Utica player, Donohue carried the ball down into the box and ripped a shot into the lower right area of the goal.

Much of the remaining second half stayed 2-0 in favor of EC, but the Purple and Gold added one more goal in the 88th minute to seal the game. Mikayla Gowett '17 won possession of the ball just over midfield and took a shot on net. The ball floated through the air and over the keeper's hands for the 3-0 lead, which held to the final whistle.

The Soaring Eagles will be back in action Wednesday, September 25th when they travel to Oneonta, NY to take on Hartwick College. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
